Writing tips: characters with fantastic eyesight
As an editor, I often come across novels where the action takes place at night, yet the characters run and jump, and see each other as well as in daylight. This is a common fault with new writers. At night, it is hard to see anything, including colors. If someone is stood fifty yards away, you will not recognise them unless there is a strong light near them.
I have edited books where the action goes on as it does in daylight, the characters all displaying fantastic eyesight. You must stop and think, image a scene at night – with people being just dark outlines, and work from there.
